This document serves as a formal agreement between the client and the therapist outlining the terms, conditions, and expectations related to therapy sessions. The purpose of this document is to ensure that clients understand the therapeutic process, confidentiality policies, professional conduct expectations, financial commitments, cancellation terms, and other key aspects of their participation in therapy. By agreeing to terms and conditions, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the terms outlined herein. You also confirm that you are voluntarily seeking therapy and understand that therapy is a collaborative effort between the therapist and client. If at any time you have questions regarding t&c or therapy, you are encouraged to discuss them with your therapist before proceeding.
The primary purpose of therapy is to provide a confidential and supportive space where clients can explore emotional challenges, improve mental well-being, and develop effective coping strategies. Therapy may involve discussing thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and past experiences that may be contributing to current challenges. The therapeutic approach used will be tailored to the client’s specific needs and may incorporate evidence-based interventions as deemed appropriate by the therapist. While therapy can be beneficial, it is important to recognize its limitations. Therapy is not a quick solution but rather a process that requires time, commitment, and active participation. It may bring up difficult emotions, and progress can sometimes feel slow or uncertain. Additionally, therapy does not guarantee specific results, and the effectiveness of treatment depends on various factors, including the client’s willingness to engage, external circumstances, and the complexity of issues being addressed. If at any point the therapist determines that the client’s needs would be better met by another professional, an appropriate referral will be provided.
For clients engaging in online therapy sessions, professional conduct is always expected. Clients should ensure that they are in a private and quiet location free from distractions during sessions. It is important to dress appropriately and conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful and conducive to a professional therapeutic environment. Attending sessions while driving, under the influence of substances, or in a public or inappropriate setting is not permitted. If the therapist determines that the client is not in a suitable environment for a productive session, the session may be terminated or rescheduled at the therapist’s discretion.
Confidentiality is a fundamental part of the therapeutic relationship. All information shared
during therapy sessions is protected and will not be disclosed to third parties without the
client’s written consent, except in certain legally mandated situations. These exceptions
include cases where the therapist has reason to believe that the client is at imminent risk of
harming themselves or others, cases of suspected child abuse, elder abuse, or abuse of a
vulnerable adult, or if the authorities or a court of law orders the release of records.
In order to provide the highest standard of care, the therapist may discuss cases with other
professionals or supervisors. These discussions are conducted in a professional manner while
maintaining the client’s anonymity and confidentiality. Consultation is a standard practice and
is designed to enhance the quality of treatment while ensuring that clients receive the most
effective therapeutic care possible.
If a client has concerns about confidentiality, they are encouraged to discuss them with the
therapist before beginning therapy.
Therapy is most effective when clients actively participate in the process. Clients are expected to attend sessions regularly, arrive on time, and be honest and open about their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. If there are any concerns or uncertainties regarding the therapeutic process, clients are encouraged to communicate them directly with the therapist. Clients must respect the boundaries and ethical guidelines of therapy. If a client engages in behaviour that disrupts the therapeutic process or violates ethical standards, therapy services may be discontinued, and a referral to another provider may be offered.
Online therapy sessions are conducted using secure, encrypted platforms to protect client confidentiality. However, clients should be aware that there are inherent risks associated with online communication, including the potential for technological failures, security breaches, or unauthorized access. Clients are responsible for ensuring that they use a private and secure internet connection during sessions and should avoid public or shared computers when accessing therapy services. Recording of sessions is strictly prohibited by both the client and therapist unless explicit written consent is provided by both parties. Any unauthorized recording, distribution, or sharing of therapy content will be considered a breach of confidentiality and may result in the termination of services.
Each therapy session is scheduled for approximately 60 minutes or 90 minutes. The number of sessions required will vary depending on the client’s individual needs and progress. While some clients may benefit from short-term therapy consisting of a few sessions, others may require longer-term support. The frequency and duration of therapy will be discussed and determined collaboratively between the client and therapist. Clients have the right to discontinue therapy at any time but are encouraged to discuss their decision with the therapist before doing so.
For clients under the age of 18, parental or guardian consent is required before therapy services can be initiated. While confidentiality is still maintained for minor clients, parents or guardians may receive general updates on progress and will be informed if there are any safety concerns. The therapist will work to balance the minor’s right to privacy with the legal and ethical responsibilities of parental involvement. If a parent or guardian has legal custody arrangements, relevant documentation may be required before therapy begins. before doing so.
Therapy sessions fee will be discussed by the therapist before the session. Payment is required at the time of service, and accepted payment methods include online transactions. All fees are non-refundable, regardless of session outcomes or progress. If a client cancels a session with less than 12 hours’ notice, a cancellation fee of full session will be charged. No- shows or missed appointments without prior notice will also be subject to full session charges. Clients are encouraged to provide advanced notice if they need to reschedule to avoid cancellation fees.
In rare cases, a therapist may need to cancel or reschedule a session due to emergencies, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances. Clients will be notified as soon as possible, and efforts will be made to reschedule the session at a mutually convenient time. If ongoing therapy is no longer possible due to the therapist’s unavailability, appropriate referrals will be provided. Therapy services may be terminated if the therapist determines that the client’s needs would be better served by another professional, if the client repeatedly violates policies, or if therapy is no longer beneficial. If termination occurs, the therapist will discuss options with the client and provide referrals to ensure continuity of care. In the event of a technological breakdown that disrupts an online session, such as internet failure, platform malfunctions, or unexpected connection issues, efforts will be made to reconnect and continue the session. If reconnection is not possible within a reasonable timeframe, the session may be rescheduled at no additional cost. If the therapist needs to cancel a session due to illness, emergency, or unforeseen circumstances, the client will be notified as soon as possible, and an alternative appointment will be offered. In cases where rescheduling is not feasible, a refund or rescheduling may be issued at the discretion of the therapist.
By agreeing to T & C, I confirm that I have read and understood the document. I acknowledge that I have had the opportunity to ask questions and that I voluntarily agree to participate in therapy under the terms outlined above.
